3 Books That Will Change Your Life

Today I will be talking about THREE LIFE CHANGING BOOKS and why you need to read them all now. But before we jump into the post, make sure that you subscribed to my blog to get email updates every time I post, and follow me on InstagramFacebook and Pinterest to get more updates from me on my day to day life.

1. You Can Be Happy No Matter What by Richard Carlson

This book is an absolutely amazingly life changing book that helped me to re-frame my mind by understanding HOW the brain works. Carlson did a great job of explaining how our thoughts and brain work in a way that is understandable to the average person. Carlson breaks down the concept of happiness into 5 principles and explains happiness in a more scientific sense.

Some of the main lessons that I pulled from this book include: learning to accept your thought system, using your natural state of mind, focusing on the present moment, and understanding the purpose of stress. First, accepting and understanding how your thought system works can help us to realize that happiness is not based on our circumstances, but rather on how our mind interprets those circumstances. Second, using your natural state of mind explains that our ability to be happy is already within us, and thus we do not have to search for happiness outside of ourselves. Third, focusing on the present moment allows us to have a greater quality of life. If we are always focusing on the past or future we will never be living our best life. Lastly, learning the purpose of stress, allowed me to understand stress and stop it in it’s tracks before it takes over.

This book is an amazing read and is a must read for anyone who is dealing with any sort of mental health problems. The book is broken down into little chapters that help the reader to stay focused on what is going on. I think this is a book that I will return back to in the future and reread over and over again. If you want to know more about this book, I wrote a whole in depth blog post on this over the summer. Check it out here, Improving Happiness by Understanding Our Thoughts, Moods, & Feelings.

2. Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

Elizabeth Gilbert created “Big Magic” years after writing  the New York Times Best-Selling Book “Eat Pray Love”. Within the book she explains how to live your best creative life and express yourself without fear. Gilbert writes this book in shorter sub-chapters that are only a few pages long, which makes it easy to stay focused on the topic. This book is a must read for any and all people, but especially those that are in a creative field. Now, when I say a “creative field” this could be marketing, painting, architecture, social media, singing, acting, etc. You do not need to fall into the conventional box of “artist” in order to gain insight from this book.

Gilbert breaks down this book into 5 main parts each focusing on an idea. These parts cover topics such as courage, enchantment, permission, persistence, and trust. She starts the book with the topic courage, which gives the reader inspiration to go after their creative endevour. The second part talks about enchantment. Here she talks about how ideas arrive in your head and what to do with an idea once it arrives to you. Third, Gilbert gives us permission to go after out creative endevour, and explains why we are holding ourselves back from starting. Fourth, she talks about persistence and the tips and tricks to creating your idea and making it all the way to completion. Lastly, she explains the importance of trust in the universe and the magic of your idea.

This book is a great read for all people and I highly encourage you to pick it up. Some of the concepts that Gilbert gets into can become very “woo-woo” so to speak, as she begins talking about how the idea comes to you from the universe. But, I think that even if you don’t necessarily believe in that you will take a lot away from this book.

3. You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero

The final book that I want to share with you all today is “You Are A Badass” by Jen Sincero. This book is a self-help book in the most subtle way possible. Sincero broke this book down into 27 bite-sized chapters that cover topics from identifying self-sabotaging behaviors, to earning more money form your job and your passion. This book should be read by all people for a bit of inspiration on how to better your life.

Sincero writes this book by telling us little stories from her life and sharing the insight she has gained along the way. It is a very easy read and is broken down into 5 parts with 27 mini-chapters. The parts cover topics that make you analyze your past, embrace your present and inner badass, learn new tips and tricks for gratitude and achieving your goals, learning to stop procrastinating and making excuses, and finally going after your dream hardheartedly.

I would highly recommend this book for anyone who needs a little pick me up and a new perspective on life. If you are feeling a bit “meh” but arent sure why, this is the one for you.

I hope that you enjoyed this post and it gave you some inspiration for some great reads to pick up for yourself or a friend this holiday season. It is important to continue to learn and grow through life and I think that reading is an amazing way to do so. This post does contain some affiliate links for the books.
